Michelle (Shelly) Marks
Coaching and Consulting Experience
With more than 20 years experience in human resources leadership, Shelly has driven organization design, initiated and deployed world-class leadership development and coaching programs, led change management initiatives and shaped high-performance cultures. She offers expertise in transforming cultures, designing strategic human resources and human capital plans, developing and engaging associates, creating first-time leadership coaching programs and implementing employee-centered programs that advance business objectives.
As a certified professional coach, she has spent the last 15 years coaching associates and leaders and administering 360-degree feedback tools, hiring and behavioral assessments and other coaching tools. Her deepest experience is in the IT, banking, retail and marketing industries. Over the past decade, she has focused on coaching executives from the director level up into the C-suite.
Business and Career Background
She formerly served as vice president, human resources and an executive committee member with Alliance Data, Retail Services, doubling the HR organization to provide support to meet fast-paced recruitment of 2,000 associates in 18 months. She also partnered with The Ohio State University to create a high-potential leadership development program and facilitated culture-shaping initiatives to feed the personal and professional needs of 5,000 employees. In an earlier position with the company, she played a key role in the development and deployment of organization design, executive succession planning, coaching, and learning and development programs, ensuring readily available talent to meet emerging and long-term business needs. She launched her career in compensation analysis and administration, shaping her ability to lead human capital strategy in alignment with human resources and business goals.
Shelly has shared her knowledge through her 10-plus years in the classroom, teaching within local universities and serving as a frequent guest lecturer for The Ohio State University MBA program. She also is an active coach, mentor and advocate outside of her professional engagements, holding leadership roles with the WELD Women’s Leaders Conference and OSU Human Resources Associations.
Education and Certification
Shelly earned a B.S.B.A. in human resources management from The Ohio State University and an M.B.A. in organizational leadership and management from Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio. She is a certified 360-Degree Feedback Coach for supervisors, managers, directors and executives, a Development Dimensions International (DDI) Certified Trainer and is certified in Six Sigma Green Belt and Hogan Assessment Systems.
